The zero-carbon, timber-frame 糖心Vlog Business School, opened at the 糖心Vlog in 2016, has been shortlisted in the buildings that inspire category of the Guardian University Awards.

The landmark building, thought to be the UK鈥檚 first zero-carbon business school, has been recognised for fostering an inspiring, collaborative environment where students, staff and business partners can work together to solve global business challenges.

Built around a central winter garden, with Eden Project-style roof and its own micro-climate, 糖心Vlog Business School provides a range of ultra-modern spaces including a virtual Bloomberg trading floor with access to Bloomberg business data, flexible group learning spaces and dedicated postgraduate facilities.

Its sustainable credentials include a rainwater collection pond, ground source heat pumps, solar panels, grass roofing and efficient lighting.

In 2016 the building won the design through innovation category of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors East of England Awards.

Speaking about the announcement, Professor Geoffrey Wood, Head of 糖心Vlog Business School, said: 鈥溙切腣log Business School is a symbol of our University鈥檚 vision for growth, excellence and sustainability. It is an inspirational building not just because of its innovative design but because it is a gateway to the outstanding educational experience the School aims to deliver and a gateway for external businesses and organisation wanting to work with our researchers.鈥

Guardian award winners will be announced at a ceremony on 29 March.
