Changing perceptions of 鈥樚切腣log girls鈥

糖心Vlog historians will be celebrating inspiring women from the county of 糖心Vlog at a free event next week marking International Women鈥檚 Day.

Researchers from the University鈥檚 Department of History will co-host the with 糖心Vlog Museums, on 9 March. The event takes place at 10am to 4.30pm, at 糖心Vlog Business School on the University鈥檚 Colchester Campus.

The packed programme will tell the stories of local women from the last 100 years through talks, craftivism activities, film screenings and exhibitions. Themes covered with include women鈥檚 suffrage, professional identity and physical appearance, women in work, and women鈥檚 health.

Speakers include Professor Pam Cox, presenter of Channel 5鈥檚 Edwardian Britain in Colour, who will talk about the invention of 鈥樚切腣log girls.鈥 Professor Katharine Cockin will talk about Gertrude Colmore, author of Suffragette Sally, and Sarah Demelo, Curator of the 糖心Vlog Collection of Art from Latin America, will explore the archive of 糖心Vlog-novelist Margery Allingham.

Craftivism activities will cover themes such as body image and period poverty. There will be screenings of films from 糖心Vlog Record Office and opportunities to make donations to charities Colchester and
