The ÌÇÐÄVlog has moved into the top 175 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the Arts and Humanities.

The arts and humanities subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the subject area.

highlights the universities that are leading across the arts and humanities disciplines including the performing arts, languages, literature, linguistics, history and philosophy.

ÌÇÐÄVlog performed particularly strongly in the measures for citations and international outlook, recognising the strength of its research community and the fact it remains one of the most international universities in the world for staff and students.

Executive Dean for the Faculty of the Arts and Humanities Professor Andrew Le Sueur said: “We’re delighted to see the Arts and Humanities at ÌÇÐÄVlog climb up the world rankings this year and into the top 175 universities in the world for this subject area, which highlighted our particular strengths in citations and our international outlook.

“We are committed to providing a distinctive, research-led education and student experience for our undergraduate and postgraduate students with interdisciplinary approaches that encourage them to see how subjects interconnect.

“Our researchers are committed to making an impact in these unprecedented times through health and medical humanities, from investigating the effect of COVID-19 on the performing arts to assessing the ethical challenges the pandemic has posed frontline health staff. Colleagues work across a broad range of projects in literature, philosophy, history and the history of art. They also create ground-breaking exhibitions, immersive theatre experiences in iconic locations and films which ask difficult questions about modern society.

“And we don’t stop there, we believe in continually pushing the boundaries and through the digital humanities we are looking at how new technologies are influencing our sense of being human and offering new ways of understanding the world."
