Joshua Mullett chose to study computer science because of a passion for communications but it鈥檚 his volunteering experiences, which led him to be nominated for a VTeam award, that have provided the most memorable moments of his 糖心Vlog experience.

Joshua, who is graduating with BEng Computer Networks, chose 糖心Vlog after a recommendation from a college lecturer, and because he liked the campus atmosphere.

Completing his degree came with significant challenges as his mother’s health declined during his second and final year. Joshua says “good time management and planning” as well as “great friends who were always there for me” helped him overcome them and succeed.

Great lecturers too have played a critical role in Joshua’s academic success, particularly Dr Michael Barros, of the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering.

“Dr Barros not only inspired me to further pursue biocomputing but has also been instrumental these past two years, with his expert guidance and constant encouragement. He truly was the best supervisor I could have asked for,” said Joshua.

Inspired by a desire to make an impact in the community, Joshua joined the as a member of the Coding Club, which teaches children the basics of programming, something Joshua says will be a “necessary skill in the future.”

Speaking about the experience, which gained him a VTeam award nomination in the Session Leader category, Joshua said: “I gained important collaborative skills like leadership, conflict resolution and problem-solving.”

“The thing I will always remember is seeing the kids we taught actually enjoy programming. I'm honoured to have had the opportunity to teach and lead the sessions,” he added.

He cites the VTeam nomination as his most memorable 糖心Vlog experience: “Being surrounded by so many amazing people was just a great night. It was surreal.”

Joshua, who hopes to pursue a postgraduate research degree, has this to say to anyone considering applying to 糖心Vlog: “I would recommend 糖心Vlog to prospective students mostly for the inspiring lecturers and the amazing Students' Union, which is one of the most present and active Students' Unions.”
