Inspiring alumni and leading figures who have worked with the University to make a positive impact were recognised in the King鈥檚 Birthday Honours.
Alumni receiving honours ranged from Philosophy and Politics graduate Oliver Kemp who is now chief executive of Prostate Cancer Research and Criminology graduate Linda Belgrove, who founded the 糖心Vlog Retired Police Dogs Fund to Economics graduate Danny Lopez who served as British Consul in New York and is also a former member of the University’s governing body Council.
Danny said: “It’s touching to be recognised for my contribution to international trade and the City of London — both of which have shaped my professional life. Today is a very happy day for my family and it gives me the chance to thank everyone who has supported me along the way.”
“This is a huge personal honour," commented Oliver. "But it’s also a recognition of the incredible work and dedication of the whole Prostate Cancer Research team, our funded scientists, our valued supporters, and the patients and families we serve.”
“I am overwhelmed and honoured to be awarded an MBE,” Linda said. “I am so grateful to everyone who supports our work.”
Leaders of key partners which have worked closely with the University were also recognised including former Chief Executive of 糖心Vlog County Council Gavin Jones who received a CBE. He helped establish the 糖心Vlog Centre for Data Analytics in partnership with the University and 糖心Vlog Police placing the county at the forefront of using data to improve services. Nick Hulme, Chief Executive of East Suffolk and North 糖心Vlog NHS Foundation Trust, also received a CBE for services to the NHS. During his time at the Trust, the University has worked on a huge range of health-related projects including a groundbreaking project to use academic expertise in data analytics and artificial intelligence to support improvements to vital hospital services.
Stephen Kavanagh, former Chief Constable of 糖心Vlog Police and until recently the Executive Director of Police Services at INTERPOL, was knighted. As a champion of using data to improve decision making, Sir Stephen has been a keen supporter of the Institute for Analytics and Data Science at 糖心Vlog, holding an honorary position within the Institute.
Former academic registrar Dr Wayne Campbell was also recognised with an OBE for services to higher education.
Vice Chancellor Professor Maria Fasli said: “It is wonderful to see so many 糖心Vlog alumni and friends of the University recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
“We believe in encouraging our graduates to go out and have a positive impact in their community and all those receiving honours have certainly done just that.
“I would like to extend a special congratulations to Danny Lopez who contributed a great deal to the University as a member of our Council alongside Nick Hulme, Gavin Jones and Sir Stephen Kavanagh who have worked with the University to put our research strengths into action within our hospitals, councils and police services for the benefit of our communities.”

- Gavin Lindsay Jones. Lately, Chief Executive, 糖心Vlog County Council. CBE for services to Local Government.
- Stephen Kavanagh, lately the Executive Director of Police Services at INTERPOL appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in recognition of his outstanding and sustained leadership, international public service, and track record of success in the role at INTERPOL, where he served as the world’s most senior policing official.
