Profile
Biography
Matthew Stone is Professor of Law, having joined 糖心Vlog as a lecturer in 2011, and previously having been a lecturer at London Metropolitan University. He holds an LLB (Warwick), a Masters in Research (Birkbeck) and a PhD (Birkbeck). Matt teaches on modules covering equity, property law and legal theory. His research explores the relation between law and subjectivity, in particular the way that law shapes (or challenges) the way in which we understand ourselves. He has a long-standing interest in ethical forms of subjectivity, particularly those that escape the logic of modern legality. He is the author of a monograph on law and the ethical philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas in 2016. A further aspect of his research concerns the significance of property, ownership and ideology in the way we perceive the self, and the role of law in articulating propertied forms of subjectivity.
