Keeping Happy, Healthy and Safe

A bathroom sink with a tap. On the edge is a red cup with a toothbrush in it. A mirror is reflecting the cup and tap.

The purpose of the group is to provide information to people with learning disabilities, in a way that they can understand, to enable them to make healthier lifestyle choices and to keep safe including online.

We also recognise that many people with learning disabilities are socially isolated so the group will offer the opportunity to have social interaction in a safe and supportive environment.

The group content will be provided by Nursing and AHP students under direct supervision and will be evidence-based. The group will cover:

  • Personal Hygiene: Why it is important to look after yourself, including oral health
  • Health screenings: A chance to understand what they are and why we should do them
  • Keeping safe: How to keep ourselves safe when out and about but also online safety. How to make positive friendships and relationships
  • Exercise: Each week there will be time to do some exercise and encouragement to continue this after the session

This is a 6-week course.

Carers/family members are welcome to come to the group to support the person with learning disabilities.

If you are working with or supporting a person who may benefit from attending this group, please talk to them or their carer about attending.
