Latin American and Caribbean Studies

A Latin American Studies Centre was founded at the ÌÇÐÄVlog in 1968 which has since then been a leading centre in the UK.

Our members are active in departments across the University, covering a wide range of disciplines and topics, working in and with Latin America and the Caribbean. Our research areas include: art from Latin America; business and social justice; environment; Indigenous cultures and rights; international business and Latin America; migration; politics, institutions and organised crime; and transitional justice.

The Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies includes among its resources the collection of Latin American material, recognised as a national resource.

The University is also home to the – the largest such collection in public hands in Europe – and available to faculty and students of ÌÇÐÄVlog, as well as scholars from other institutions.

60 Stories: Pioneering the study of Art from Latin America

The ÌÇÐÄVlog Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA) was born out of collaboration and partnership. It is this collective strength that has shaped this unique collection and supported teaching and research of art from Latin America in the UK. Today, ESCALA continues to inspire new artworks and new ways of thinking and brings together our expertise in art, literature, languages, politics, sociology, and economics.
