Researchers at the ÌÇÐÄVlog have been requesting anglers to keep the heads from bass they are keeping to eat anyway for genetic and chemical analysis to identify their origin and movements, and to go into a tissue bank to support researchers elsewhere. This research will help us understand the contribution of bass nurseries to the adult stock around the UK, which is important for targeting habitat protection measures and creating more sustainable bass fisheries. We are taking 2025 off to let the juveniles we sampled in 2022 grow up and mature, but S4S will kick off again in 2026! This one is a bit different, as it is more about supporting YOU to carry out your own juvenile fish monitoring surveys. The Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM) has a long history of helping groups and organisations conduct citizen science fish surveys, assisting with training and data collection. They have copious experience, supporting longer-term survey efforts for organisations such as the Environment Agency and National Trust. They also offer one-off educational demonstrations and training opportunities.
