糖心Vlog

We chat to Southend student Scott, who tells us how volunteering is a great way to meet new people at University.

I鈥檓 Scott and I am a Mental Health Nursing student here at 糖心Vlog.

I鈥檓 a mature student and, even though I鈥檓 nearly 40 years old and have a young family, I know that鈥檚 no excuse for me not to get involved with every aspect of University life.

Southend is a great little town with a thriving arts and music scene. If there is something I can get involved in to promote or improve this little corner of 糖心Vlog, I鈥檓 always happy to jump in.

I wont lie, it鈥檚 a little daunting at times being older than other students but we鈥檙e all here to learn and experience that community feeling of University.

Age is just a number, and it鈥檚 always worth grabbing every opportunity to meet new people. Studying mental health has made me realise it is young adults who get hit hardest by mental health struggles, so I know it鈥檚 more important than ever to reach out and connect with my peers, especially during the pandemic.

The Southend VTeam are really welcoming. I鈥檝e enjoyed working with them during beach cleans. It doesn鈥檛 cost me anything other than my time to do this and I know I鈥檓 making a positive impact on the local area by doing it.

I鈥檇 love to see some new faces come and join us in the sunshine soon!
